[Mondo-devel] Unable to restore CENTOS 6.8 from Bootable USB

JP
I am unable to restore my MondoArchive from my bootable USB stick

I created the bootable usb stick using this procedure:

The bootable usb has this file structure:

 Directory of E:\

12/29/2016  05:58 AM    <DIR>          archives
12/29/2016  05:06 AM    <DIR>          images

12/29/2016  05:06 AM        64,128,211 initrd.img
12/29/2016  05:06 AM         4,269,936 vmlinuz

               6 File(s)     68,428,425 bytes
               5 Dir(s)   1,699,864,576 bytes free

The archives directory contains these files:

Volume in drive E has no label.
 Volume Serial Number is E6F8-3DC1

 Directory of E:\archives

I boot off of this USB stick and issue the command:

interactive usb=/dev/sdc

During execution /dev/sdc1 correctly mounts on /mnt/cdrom

From the interactive menu I select:

USB Key/Disk

The system asks if this corresponds to /dev/cdrom which it should as I saw it mounted earlier - I say yes

The system then says it cannot find:

config file/archives

When I check the mount list /dev/sdc1 is no longer mounted on /dev/cdrom

I have attached the logs from /tmp and /var/log

Am I incorrect in my reading of the FAQ that I should be able to create a comprehensive bootable and archive USB?

Ideas??

Why ? Can't you directly use the -U option of mondoarchive ?

Yes, but the recommended approach is to use -U
The other method is a workaround, if you did on CD and then later change your mind, and may require more work (I have not tested that recently myself).

I can't comment on your restore itself as the log is truncated, and doesn't provide anyuseful info.

Re: [Mondo-devel] Unable to restore CENTOS 6.8 from Bootable USB

JP
I attached the file from /var/log and don't understand how it could be truncated.

Any suggestions for getting the complete file to attach?

I will investigate the preferred -U option - the reason I wanted a bootable usb is to save on burning dvds

Thanx for the guidance.
