[Mondo-devel] Recent Linux kernels : default IO scheduler and throughput pbs

Gattegno, Victor (GSD CSC / GCC)

For your information, default IO scheduler has been changed in recent Linux kernels.

CFQ (Completely Fair Queuing) is now the default scheduler, since Linux kernel 2.6.32

Be aware that there could be 2 CFQ Problems

1. low latency mode
low_latency = 1 by default, then: servers throughput pbs
cf http://www.linux-mag.com/id/7637
cf http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_2_6_32#head-e07f19bb79beab04cb9e68b942c9041b490b71db

2. worse I/O read perf (local and NFS mounted file systems)
