You have issues with device. You may miss a device driver. Or your target has
xvda instead of xvdb.
Look at http://www.mondorescue.org/docs/p2v.pdf if you try restoring on another
type of system (even if it's not the case it could give you some hints).

Re: [Mondo-devel] Mondo Restore not working on OEL 6

Kalchik, Jeffery
In reply to this post by rumchandra
Good morning, Rum (et al.)

I'm running Mondo 3.0.4 (due to failing name resolution in the current version,) on OL5, 6 and testing 7, as well as RHEL5, 6 and 7 (testing...) and CentOS 6 and 7 (testing.  See a pattern?  )  I haven't had any issues like you're seeing.  For some reason, the mondo recovery environment sees the drives, but doesn't see any of the volume groups.

Are you attempting a recovery in place on the same VM, or have you created a new VM for restoration?

Looks like you've got at least 2 virtual drives attached, and booting from the 2nd?

The mondoarchive.log and mondorestore.log files would certainly be handy.

What is your archive type, NFS, CD/DVD, hard drive, etc?  What was your mondoarchive commandline?

Just for grins, what's the results of running "vgs" and "pvs" at the mondo recovery shell command line?

Re: [Mondo-devel] Mondo Restore not working on OEL 6

Kalchik, Jeffery
Between your original screenshots, and your followups, it's apparent that you're running your VM in an Oracle Virtual Machine environment.  Why would you use Mondo in a virtualized environment, and not utilize snapshots, or another virtual recovery method?  I have VMs here running both VMware and OVM, and the only place we use Mondorescue is on physical hardware.  I'm not saying that you're doing something wrong, you may have sound reasons to do this.

Having said that...if you can remove the ISO from the VM definition and successfully boot it, then Bruno is right.  Some way, some how, you're missing a shared library or a driver for the virtualized hardware.

I am using ovm and ovm doesn't support snapshot like VMware. I am not missing anything while taking the backup as it is completing successfully.
I am mounting the iso to the ovm and trying to restore on the same vm. Does mindi not support vms restoration?

Re: [Mondo-devel] Mondo Restore not working on OEL 6

Kalchik, Jeffery

Even if the mondoarchive run completes successfully, you’re missing something.  Neither “pvs” or “vgs” are showing any LVM structures at all, and you should see your drive and volume groups.  It might be as simple as a filter expression in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf, you might be missing a shared library, could be a few other things.  Check dmesg, /var/log/messages, /var/log/secure, etc. while you’re inside a Mondo recovery shell.

Mondo/mindi/etc is fairly agnostic when it comes to environment.  There’s no intrinsic reason that I’m aware of that would keep it from running in a virtualized environment.

But you can see in the screen shot the 50gb disk is available am not able to understand what could be the issue

I am using ovm and ovm doesn't support snapshot like VMware. I am not missing anything while taking the backup as it is completing successfully.

I am mounting the iso to the ovm and trying to restore on the same vm. Does mindi not support vms restoration?

Hi,

Are you attempting a recovery in place on the same VM, or have you created a new VM for restoration?

I am restoring to the same vm  of which the backup is took

Looks like you've got at least 2 virtual drives attached, and booting from the 2nd?

I dont have 2 VD's there is only one disk

The mondoarchive.log and mondorestore.log files would certainly be handy.

What is your archive type, NFS, CD/DVD, hard drive, etc?  What was your mondoarchive commandline?

it is iso and mounted as CD/DVD, the command is nuke <https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3a%2f%2fmondorescue-mailing-list.679749.n3.nabble.com%2ffile%2fn4027420%2fvgs.png&data=01%7c01%7cjdkalchik%40landolakes.com%7cc2a14a0500f44e084b5308d3b068144b%7c21ab97d78e754056826b9d8ec665c5a3%7c1&sdata=PIJ6mrjPOZNxdWRKMu3OeNl%2bo2sPLrHZzLBW9exALWU%3d>

Just for grins, what's the results of running "vgs" and "pvs" at the mondo recovery shell command line?

plese find the screenshot

There is nothing the given link to verify the compatibility with OVM. Can you  please check the logfile and let me know the issue why the harddisk is not getting detected even restoring to the same vm.

Mondorescue components seem ok in your mondoarchive.log:
Mondo v3.2.2-r3578
Mindi v3.0.2-r3578
Mindi-BusyBox v1.21.1-r3332

What's the result of the following command?
# yum list installed | egrep 'mondo|mindi|syslinux'

Did you installed Mondorescue this way?
# pwd
/etc/yum.repos.d
# wget ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org/rhel/6/x86_64/mondorescue.repo
# yum install mondo

To check what's happening at restore, the /var/log/mondorestore.log file (on/from the machine restored) is needed. After restore, before rebooting, you should be able to save the /var/log/mondorestore.log file to a USB key or via network (more info attached if needed).
